For the 70th anniversary of Spike and Suzy (Suske en Wiske) Flemish and Dutch comics artists were asked to create a 22 page album. I was one of them.
In the ‘Duplex project’ 8 poets and 8 comic artists created 8 ‘grafic poems’.
Cunera’s scarfe is the story of Cunera, patron of the town of Rhenen (in the province of Utrecht, Netherlands). The town’s church is named after her, as are a long road, a lane, a hill, a school, liquor and cookies.
But why? Who was Cunera?
The Netherlands took part in about 100 missions all over the world, since World War II. Ten personal stories, from the Dutch East Indies tot the Balkans, from Lebanon tot Papua New Guinea were made into comic stories, by ten Dutch artists, in styles as diverse as the countries and missions.
